But the wrong reaction, and it annoys the heck me. There's been a few protagonists that I just utterly despise because they get jealous and start taking it out on their innocent significant other. If the character gets mean, I <em>hate</em> them. Toss-the-book-across-the-room hate them. I'll barely tolerate whining and sulking. <br /><br />Now if the object of the jealousy is being malicious, then by all means, the protagonist can be mean and vindictive.
